Homework Guidelines for Students

Homework will average sixty minutes per night, five nights a week. Homework time officially begins after you have prepared your work space, set out your materials, reduced distractions, and committed to uninterrupted and concentrated effort. Remember what “average” means; sixty minutes is not a maximum cutoff point. If you find that homework is regularly taking you more than ninety minutes, please let me know. (Note: Students who are attending middle school for math may require an additional 15-30 minutes per night.)

If you have finished all homework that is due the next day in less than sixty minutes, work on long-term assignments that are due in the future. If you have no future deadlines, dedicate the remainder of your homework time to independent reading of your choice or studying for upcoming quizzes or tests.

After-school and weekend questions about homework are best addressed to classmates. Remember that you can contact someone by phone if no one is online or replying to you electronically.
